How did you arrive at the Brookline Arts Center? One of my very dear friends was a teacher in the metals studio at Brookline Arts Center. She recommended I apply for a position, and I have been here ever since, going on 8 years!!
Tell us about your background. How did you become interested in art? When I was a little girl, my parents used to sign me up for classes at Rhode Island School of Design. I always thought fashion design or graphic design was the route I would take in life until I entered college at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. I quickly realized I loved working with my hands, I took a Foundry class and fell in love with working with metal.
What passions do you bring to the BAC community? Brookline Art Center allows me to share my passion for creating jewelry with a diverse group of people. I have the pleasure of teaching little hands how to create a piece of jewelry they can wear and enjoy for years to come. I try to create an environment where my young students can express themselves and feel comfortable in my class. I find it very rewarding to watch the expressions on their faces as they work complete their projects. In my adult classes, we are able to complete some very sophisticated projects. My adult classes are usually repeat students, whom I not only regard as my students, but also my friends!
What was your favorite childhood art project? Every summer I attended a Native American-themed summer camp. You could always find me making dream catchers, creating bead loomed bracelets or constructing wigwams.
Who are some of your art heroes? Iris Apfel.
Do you have anything exciting coming up?
Yes, I am currently in the process of moving my studio into my very first Brick and Mortar located in the new Bow Market in Somerville. My space will have a studio in the back where clients have a comfortable space to discuss upcoming projects and a retail gallery in the front. I will represent not only myself, but other artists as well.
