How did you arrive at the Brookline Arts Center?
As a single mother of three children, BAC has always been a resource for my family, from birthday parties to classes. As they have grown, my association to BAC has shifted to connecting with other artists, learning about their passion, and giving me the courage to delve into my love of jewelry. As BAC developed their group spaces for Open Studios, I felt there was an opportunity to show my work, and it was well received. I am very thankful and excited to be showing my work at the Brookline Arts Center.
Tell us about your background. How did you become interested in art?
My Nanna’s hatbox was a universe of treasures filled with colorful velvet, lace, fanciful beads, buttons, and a blackbird wing. Her love of making inspired me to explore my own universe of treasures, to use my hands to create thoughtful jewelry with a myriad of stones and beads.
What passions do you bring to the BAC community?
An open heart for learning and connecting. I am passionate about connecting with other people. My life has been about kids and raising them to their full potential. Now I’m exploring my new life in jewelry, learning how to express myself through art.
Who are some of your art heroes?
The unknown maker- 460,000 years ago who decorated a shell.
Georgia O’Keefe – the confidence to move to the desert and paint flowers.
Iris Apfel – the audacity to decorate herself in a myriad of ways and combining influences from around the world.
Andy Goldsworthy – the ability to immerse himself into a landscape, manipulate nature in a temporal modality and document the work.
Louise Nevelson – she worked for 30 years in solitude making assemblage and when she felt she was ready, came out and stunned the art world.
Do you have anything exciting coming up?
I am thrilled to be showing my work at the Brookline Arts Center (!) for Brookline Open Studios on April 27 & 28th!
